John McCain:Hold US Citizens Indefinitely in Prison/Camps
Legislation could imprison Americans in Camps w/out Trial for Decades
Betrayal by Conservative Republicans
Thomas Edlam of The New American brings to light a disturbing piece of legislation proposed by John McCain and 8 co-sponsors. According to The Atlantic, there is a reason for Obama’s silence about the GITMO detainees. Lindsay Graham agreed to help Obama out of a tight spot. John McCain and Lindsay Graham met with Obama in Chicago shortly after Obama was elected to discuss the problem of prisoners at Guantanamo. Apparently, S.3081 ended up being the result of that meeting
This legislation ignores the 5th and 6th amendments guaranteeing a U.S. citizen, the basic right to keep life, liberty and property and to have, due process of law. This bill could be used against citizens deemed political enemies of the president.
Co-sponsors of bill #, S. 3081, “The Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010” are:
- Jim Inhofe/R of Oklahoma,
- Joseph Lieberman/D of Connecticut
- Jeff Sessions/R of Alabama,
- Scott Brown/R of Massachusetts,
- Saxby Chambliss/R of Georgia,
- David Vitter/R of Louisiana,
- George LeMieux/R of Florida,
- Roger Wicker/R of Mississippi
This bill would give the president of the US the authority to impose indefinite imprisonment without a hearing, trial or charges for any person/s or group/s determined by the president to be an “enemy belligerent. Citizens could be held for decades in camps.
This will hurt the Republicans in the fall. Conservatives will see this as an act of betrayal.
